Brown (1887-1973) was born and raised on a farm in Jeddo, Sanilac County, Mich. After 8th grade, Will attended Ferris Institute, now Ferris State University, to take take his teacher's exam and began a long career as a teacher. In 1911 he purchased a camera and then photographed CMU students, clubs, teams, and buildings, while there which he sold as postcards.
